Mononaftis Beach

Mononaftis is a picturesque beach about 24 km west of Heraklion Crete and about 1 km north of the main beach of Agia Pelagia.

The beach is relatively small and windless due to its east orientation, has thick #and and pebbles, while there are also large slabs. The water has a characteristic greenish color!

The rocky seabed, makes it a very popular destination for diving lovers and as a result there is a permanent diving school on the beach.

It is very well organized with umbrellas, sun beds and water sports, while there are also restaurants, cafes and shops.

According to the interpretations of the locals, once a shipwreck took place here and only one sailor was saved, thus giving the name Mononaftis, which means “One sailor”.
