Makrigialos is a small town located 58km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 23km east of Ierapetra. It was originally a port and has experienced strong growth and has become the largest tourist destination in the region of southeastern Crete.
Makry Gialos means “Long Beach” in Greek. And it is true, as the main beach is 1km long.
